Stay Connected with the Department of Psychological Science

As a former student in the Department of Psychological Science, you are well aware this is a place where students get to know their professors. In fact, many of you worked with professors in their laboratories and still stay in touch to this day! Perhaps you attended our Friday afternoon colloquium talks (remember that large room in Gries Hall?) or were an SPA student.

No matter your level of involvement, we hope you stay connected to NMU and the Department of Psychological Science. You can do this in a number of ways. First, make sure we have your email address. You can send it to Grace Albert (psych@nmu.edu) as well as to the Alumni Association using the link below. You can follow the department on social media via Facebook or Instagram (see links below), as well as visit our News page from time to time. You can attend our online live streams of department colloquia (still on Fridays at 3pm)!  You can stop by for a visit, such as our department open house during Homecoming Weekend! Let's stay in touch!

Attend!

Ways to attend include our Friday Colloquium series or pursue a graduate degree. Our Colloquium series is now streamed over zoom and you can see our speaker schedule and watch live presentations through our Colloquium Page. If you have considered returning to college to complete your degree or to pursue a graduate degree, we offer a number of academic opportunities. First, to complete your bachelor's degree in psychology, you can now do this entirely online through NMU's Global Campus. Learn more at www.nmu.edu/online. The Department of Psychological Science offers as a Master's Degree in Psychology, with coursework for pursuing certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, a Limited-license Psychology license in Michigan, or a general psychology degree. NMU has these and many other graduate degree programs, which you can learn about at the NMU Graduate College webpage.

Online learning

Advise!

We recognize that our graduates have learned a lot following their time with NMU. Many have gone on to careers in psychology, while others have pursued other careers that benefited from a psychology education or psychology research experience. If you're interested in being a resource for advice for our current students, let us know by emailing psych@nmu.edu!

Give!

Many of the opportunities we provide to students come directly from financial gifts. The NMU Foundation has a fund for the Department of Psychological Science, which we exclusively use for funding student travel to scientific and professional conferences. Many of you had these opportunties while a psychology student - perhaps it was MASAL (the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters) or a large national conference, such as the Association for Psychological Science or the Society for Neuroscience. To give to this fund, visit the NMU Foundation page, select "Give Now," and select "Department, program or preferred fund" in the Designations section, and you'll find "Psychology Department" on the list.
