Practicum and Internship Opportunities

A number of local agencies and organizations may have opportunities for practicums and internships. With approval from a student's major advisor, students my use these experiences for PSY460 Practicum credits, which serve as capstone experiences for their Psychology Major Concentration areas.

Bay Cliff Health Camp offers year-round therapy for children and adults with disabilities. Their flagship programs consist of 7 week summer therapy camp sessions helping children to work towards increased independence and living a fuller life. This experience would be especially ideal for students completing PSY460B Practicum: Developmental Psychology or PSY460C Practicum: Mental Health/Pre-clinical Psychology.

Behavior Education Assessment and Research Center

The Behavior Education Assessment and Research (BEAR) Center is a university clinic and research facility overseen by the Department of Psychological Sciences. The BEAR Center seeks to provide behavior and learning support for multiple members of the community, including children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or traumatic brain injury. In addition, family and school support is offered for children with difficult or problematic behaviors, and assistance to organizations is provided to increase employee performance and productivity. All services and supports are individually designed to meet the needs of our clients and ensure a successful outcome! Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center

Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center seeks to create a safer present and future for Marquette County’s Children by serving Marquette County children and families through comprehensive high-quality intervention for child maltreatment; community education; advocacy; and connection to resources. Practicum students will observe and assist with services this center provides as well as help with awareness and prevention activities. This experience would be especially ideal for students completing  PSY460B Practicum: Developmental Psychology, PSY460C Practicum: Mental Health/Pre-clinical Psychology, and PSY460D Practicum: Social/Personality Psychology. Pine Rest Mental Health Services

Pine Rest Mental Health Services is a mental health consultation clinic based in Byron City, MI. They specialize in the management and mitigation of addiction disorders and depression. Pine Rest contains a sizable inpatient clinic and maintains strong outpatient care plans through psychiatry, group classes, psychometric testing, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). They offer summer practicum opportunities and academic year opportunities at their facility. This experience would good for global campus students residing in West Michigan area. This experience would be a good fit for students planning to complete PSY460B Practicum: Developmental Psychology, PSY460C Practicum: Mental Health/Pre-clinical Psychology, or PSY460E Practicum: Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology are encouraged to contact Pine Rest for more information.

The Trevor Project is a large-scale suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for young members of the LGBTQ+ community. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers counseling, a crisis hotline, and other mental health resources for struggling members of the LGBTQ+ youth. This unique opportunity is available for the spring of 2025, and students looking to complete PSY460C Practicum: Mental Health/Pre-Clinical Psychology should apply.
